  • Classroom: Boat systems reviews – Best winterization practice
  • Hands-on: You will perform the tasks under the direction of your instructor on a boat or sometimes on two boats throughout the day.

Why join the winterization class?

Properly winterizing your vessel will prevent weather caused damage, allow for inspection of operating equipment and insure that your vessel does not drop in value over the winter! It also makes spring commissioning much easier if  winterization is completed properly.

There are many good reasons to attend this class. You will not only winterize a sailboat but you will also perform routine maintenance tasks that are necessary even if you don’t need to winterize a boat. You will change oil, change filters, check the engine raw water system. All these tasks are to be performed on a regular basis even if you keep your boat in Florida. The winterization class could be also called a basic maintenance class!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Winterization process is the same for powerboats and sailboats. Boat systems are the same except for the sails of course.

This class is for boat owners and sailors who want to understand how to properly protect their boat for the winter. It’s ideal for beginners as well as experienced sailors who want to confidently winterize their own systems or better supervise yard work.

A little bit as you may discover maintenance problems while winterizing the boat. However this is not the intent of the school.

No prior mechanical or electrical experience is required. The instructor explains each system in simple terms and focuses on practical understanding rather than theory.

The class is hands-on. Students work directly on real boat systems, see antifreeze flow through hoses, and practice correct procedures step by step with an instructor.
