YOUR JOURNEY TO CONFIDENT SAILING

American Sailing Certifications

ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing

This is our first level of training, ideal for beginners and novice sailors.Ā You do not need any experience or pre-requisite as we take you through the basics of sailing, sailing terminology and best practice. At the end of the three day class, you will be able to safely sail your own boat in daylight and moderate wind.

ASA 103 Basic Cruising

This class continues what you learn during your ASA 101 class and takes you to the next level: the fundamentals of CRUISING.

ASA 104 Intermediate Cruising

Our unique approach: Consider ASA 104 as a mini-cruise that lasts 3 days with 2 nights on board. You willĀ circumnavigate Narragansett Bay entering multiple harbors with lots of anchoring practice and close-quarter maneuvering under power.

ASA 101 - 103 - 104 Bundle

This bundle takes you fromĀ no experience (or limited experience)Ā toĀ confident bareboat sailors. This immersive bundle is the fastest and most effective way to build real sailing confidence. In one continuous program, you progress from the basics to full cruising skills.

ASA 105 Advanced Coastal Navigation

Go beyond day sailing and step into true coastal cruising. ASA 105 builds the navigation skills you need to plan routes, understand tides and currents, and sail confidently—without relying solely on electronics.

ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising

ASA 106 is a serious advanced coastal cruising course where you live on a larger boat and will have the opportunity to build your seamanship skills.Ā

Students move beyond basic coastal sailing and focus on planning and executing longer, more complex passages, including overnight and offshore-style navigation.

ASA 118 Advanced Docking

A hands-on course dedicated to close-quarters maneuvering. Practice boat control under power, prop walk, wind and current strategies, line handling, and repeated docking scenarios.

Become a Sailing Instructor

Turn your sailing experience into teaching credentials. Learn how to teach effectively, manage students on the water, and deliver the ASA curriculum while refining your own sailing skills. A rewarding path for passionate sailors ready to share their knowledge.

Challenge an ASA Course

Already experienced but missing a certification? Demonstrate your sailing knowledge and skills through an on-the-water evaluation without taking the full class. Ideal for sailors with real-world experience who want official ASA credentials.

Boat Maintenance School

HANDS-ON COURSES OPEN TO EVERYONE. EXCELLENT FOR POWER BOATS AND SAIL BOATS

Diesel Engine Course

This course covers marine diesel engine maintenance and troubleshooting, it is a hands-on course. Since we will be clustered around the motor with tools in hand, we limit the class to five students.

Marine Electrical Systems

If there is one area that mystifies boat owners it is the electrical system (not to be confused with electronics!). Most things on a boat are black and white… plumbing either leaks or it doesn’t, a furler works or it doesn’t. Marine electrical on the other hand has many ā€˜ā€gray areasā€ depending on how charged up you are, how big the battery bank is, how many amp hours you use, and many other variables.

Bundle (Diesel, Electrical, Boat systems)

Preventive maintenance can be the cure to a lot of boat problems. Learn what should be done periodically and seasonally to prevent problems. This week long course will also give you the skills and confidence to troubleshoot problems. And if you can’t fix it, you’ll at least know how to explain the problem to a professional. You will also learn how to winterize your diesel and do the spring commissioning of the entire systems and the motor.ASA 105

Boat Winterization Class

This course covers all steps to winterize a sailboat and get the boat ready for the winter. It is a hands-on class where you will not only learn why you need to do it but also how to do it. Up to eight systems will be covered and explained during this experience.

Sail Repair Sail Making

In this hands-on class with a professional sail maker, you will learn how to design and make a headsail and a mainsail. During this two-day class you and your classmates will layout, cut, and assemble a custom sail. Even if you don’t aspire to make your own sails, the hands-on experience and learning will give you the basic skills you need to repair your sails. Plus, by gaining an understanding of how shape is imparted into a sail, you’ll gain a greater comprehension of how to shape and trim your sails as a sailor.
